Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The process of upgrading an item, often known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an indicator of the level of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases with their rarity and item level.
Upgrade components
An upgrade for an item in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can increase the power of your weapon and armor. This can be achieved in a variety of ways, including by using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. Additionally to this, many items can be reforged to increase their stats.
Upgradable items can be found throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The main way to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has slots for upgrading and some require a certain amount of upgrade. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses, while others offer a general bonus.
There are a variety of upgrade elements available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be used in any kind of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific. Glyphs can only be found in gathering tools. They offer a range of bonuses, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, click it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The window will show an overview on the right side of the screen that shows the expected stats after the upgrade, and any materials or components required. If you don't possess enough of either the two, the Upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The upper-right corner shows the number of upgrade components required to create a particular item. The cost of an upgrade increases as the level and rarity of the item increases. However, you can reduce the cost by purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.
Almost all weapons can be upgraded with an upgrade to a prefix like an insignia, or a rune, and a lot of them can be upgraded using suffix upgrades. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the item's name, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful tool to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and spark curiosity. The glyphs' animation mimics body language, making them more effective in communicating a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs also improve the retention of a message by evoking a familiarity in the brain.
item upgrades comes with a range of values it can enhance a stat, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This range is not the actual amount by the glyph can increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it is able to do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the item you're creating it for.
The majority of upgrade components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
If you want to remove the glyph from an item, you will need to salvage it using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item on which the glyph is located will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be retrieved with the glyph shards.
Adding a glyph to an item can cause it to become unstable, and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you dismantle the item. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to give it a bonus. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at one time. This is beneficial for players who take many hits from their enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes of weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from various sources, including mysterious boxes, rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll token gives the player a brand new random affix that is usually superior to the one they had before. Reroll tokens can also be used to improve weapon stats to cause more damage or bonuses.
Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of upgrade options, however they can still be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its gauge of level. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its own level, so higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower-level ones.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to roll rerolling Weapon Traits for upgraded units. Rerolls will roll a % chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeated up to three times.
Rerolling is a great option to upgrade an item. However, players must be aware of the fact that the total ilvl will be reduced by the number the rerolls required to bring it to the final level. This is evident on Diadems and Rings, since they have no other options for raising ilvl.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players for being too expensive and it's more fair to let people pay for it in the form of money or a food item that would allow players to modify their builds without a lot of time and effort. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers want to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they plan to include a race change potion in the near future.
Leveling
There are many ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the amount of upgrade, which increases the value of upgrading a given stat. The second option is to boost the effect of an upgrade, which increases damage or healing for the stat. The base item can be upgraded to a more advanced upgrade type. Once item upgrades is done, the new item will retain its iLevel but it will have the upgrade effects of the upgraded item type.
When you upgrade items, it is important to remember that upgrades are not guaranteed. Most of the time the best roll will come from the glyphs, however there are also possibilities for more or unique rolls. In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type and if you upgrade a rare or unique item to an exceptional item type it could get an iLevel that is higher.
The cost of upgrading items can be expensive, particularly when you're upgrading an item of equipment from a standard to the legendary track. The cost will depend on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it offers. Some upgrade tracks also require crests to reach the next level.
If you're fortunate, your upgraded item may get to the top of its upgrade track and unlock an additional benefit. This will result in a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level though. In general the upgrade effect is increased by a value of +3.
The iLevel also changes depending on the item's upgrade path and its base level. For example an item upgraded from being a scarce or exclusive item to an extraordinary one can be expected to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item.
